Selling Your Vehicle

August 29, 2025
There’s a lot to consider when selling your vehicle. Do you want to trade it in for something new? Are you looking to sell it online or in person? At CarBravo, we’ll give you a crash course on selling your vehicle to a dealership.

Selling Your Vehicle to a Dealership

Selling to a dealership is the simplest way to sell your vehicle. You just pull up, let them inspect your vehicle, hand over the keys, and walk away with cash or trade-in value. The dealership can help you do all the paperwork, including existing loans and trade-in sales. While dealerships may not offer quite as much as a private party sale, selling to them will be quick, easy and stress-free. For example, if you have a newer model that has a lien on it, a dealership can work with you and your financial institution to pay off the loan and purchase your next ride. There’s no extra work for you.

How to Get the Best Price at a Car Dealership

The value of your vehicle can be based on year, make, model, trim level, mileage, vehicle history and features. One of the best ways to see what it’s worth is by doing a little research of your own. Check out a few used car sites to compare listing prices. You can also get multiple online estimates from different dealerships to compare.

You should also consider your vehicle’s appearance and condition, inside and out. A quick clean, detail or minor fix can help your vehicle stand out and boost its value.

Documents Needed to Sell Car

When selling to a dealership, you’ll want to get their estimated value on your vehicle. Every dealer can give a slightly different value, so make sure to share your vehicle’s year, make, model, trim level and features. Also, check to see if they have any offers and if you like any vehicles in their inventory if you plan on replacing your vehicle with something new to you.

To complete the sale, you’ll need a few documents like your title, photo ID, and a lien release or payoff letter (if applicable). Should you have a loan, be sure to check your balance prior to selling. Once the dealer has inspected your vehicle and drawn up the paperwork, all you need to do is sign on the dotted line.
